Trail Riding | Horsemanship Program | Meet Our Horses

Consider Participating in a Unique Highland Ranch Clinic Experience

Because Highland Ranch is a full service guest ranch facility, travel, boarding and accommodations arrangements are easy on you and your horse and our clinics are richer and more enjoyable experiences for all concerned.

Highland Ranch Horsemanship events are unique because you have the opportunity to:

  • stay on site in one of our comfortable private cabins typically featuring king/queen beds, full bathrooms and fireplaces,
  • enjoy our delicious food with three meals a day and cocktail hour out on the deck by the fire in the evenings,
  • board your horses at Highland Ranch in separate paddocks
  • remain with your fellow group of riders and the clinician during meals and for the duration of your stay and thereby enriching the overall clinic experience, increasing the opportunity for sharing, learning and informal communications with fellow riders and the clinician.

Also, we are very flexible so if you would prefer to stay off-site and/or just to audit the clinic, let us know and we'll be happy to quote you a rate with or without meals and lodging, etc.

The Highland Ranch Horsemanship Program offers clinics. See  below for details and email us at stay@highlandranch.com or call (707) 895-3600 to sign up or for more information.

Yoga and Riding Long Weekend Retreats

October 16th to 19th, 2008

Deepen your presence on the mat and in the saddle

Susanne Cohen, HR's own Iyengar trained yoga teacher once again brings her love of horses and passion for yoga together in a three day weekend workshop focused on experiencing and exploring the connections between yoga and riding.

For us, yoga and riding each involve a balanced seat, an open heart, a calm breath, a present mind, and a deep connection with all life. Daily yoga classes will focus on alignment, strength, suppleness and breath that invite the body’s responsiveness and well being. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, we’ll take our enlivened experience into the saddle for individual lessons in our 60 foot, state-of-the-art round pen and for trail riding fostering a more conscious, open connection with our equine friends.

The retreat is designed for people of all experience levels in yoga and riding.  Bring your own horse or ride one of ours free of charge.

A weekend retreat of yoga and riding instruction will help to:

  • Improve your balance, flexibility and stamina on the mat and in the saddle
  • Develop your body’s responsiveness and a more conscious attitude to riding
  • Encourage harmonious work and play between horse and rider

The cost of the weekend with accommodation is $815/double occupancy and $925/single occupancy.

Rates include:

  • lodging for three nights in a well-appointed cabin with fireplace, full bathroom and porches with rocking chairs
  • all meals and beverages from Thursday lunch to Sunday lunch
  • retreat fees
  • use of a Highland Ranch horse or boarding fees for your own horse
  • use of all ranch facilities and amenities

The cost of the weekend for those NOT wishing to stay on site is $525. This rate includes:

  • breakfast, lunch and beverages (dinner available for $35/night)
  • retreat fees
  • use of a Highland Ranch horse or boarding fees for your own horse
  • use of all ranch facilities and amenities

Please call Susie at (707) 895-3600 or send an email to stay@highlandranch.com for more information.

Clinics

Clinics will be arranged for riders with similar objectives which will allow riders to focus on specific goals. For horses and riders who would like to develop a softer feel and further expand their horsemanship, we will set aside time to work on refining lateral aids and balanced equitation. As each rider finds their own inner balance and rhythm, horses will be inclined to become truly light and responsive. A primary goal of horsemanship is to achieve such oneness between horse and rider, and our hope is that riders will take home knowledge to enhance their riding, regardless of discipline.

Trail Riding Clinic: The huge expanse of property available at Highland Ranch provides the perfect opportunity to develop a superb trail horse. For riders without horses, we will match you with one of ours. For horses without trail experience, we can set up a range of situations with safe and varied terrain, river crossings, brush and other obstacles so that you and your horse will feel more confident in any situation. Spend time on the trail with various obstacles; concentrate on issues with herd-bound or sour horses that need special attention on the trail. Situations are arranged so that specific concerns can be addressed. This call is for riders who are beyond the introductory horsemanship clinic.
